Marching Percussion Ensemble Member Individual Responsibilities:
All members must have at every rehearsal:

All Members Must Practice Daily:
- 3 ring binder
- for music, warm-ups, drill, pencil
- Music
- including warm-ups, cadence, show music, stands tunes, and any hand outs
- Pencil
- for making notes at EVERY rehearsal (not a pen)

- even Front Ensemble for rehearsal markings

- order new when they are chipped up and ratty

- check mallets for problems and report any to equipment manager
- ensure whatever marking system we are using to differentiate mallets is still intact

- Do NOT make new social plans when rehearsal is scheduled

Front Ensemble Jobs
and Descriptions
Set Up Crew:
2-3 people to clear the room, or make a path from the storage room to the rehearsal space. if rehearsing in the band room, or choir room: set up crew moves chairs, finds music stands and notifies other members how and where to set up. Set up crew should motivate members standing around to help set up.
Clean Up Crew:
2-3 people to clean up the room after rehearsal. Throw out trash left around, pick up any sticks, mallets, music, instrument parts, tape remnants on the floor, set up chairs, and put away stands. The rehearsal space should be cleaner than we found it. Clean up crew should motivate members to clean up themselves rather than stand around.
Metronome Set Up:
1 person for setting up the metronome, ensuring batteries work and cable or wireless is set up and has batteries. Member responsible for putting the met, cable or wireless away after rehearsal.
Long Ranger Set Up:
1 person responsible for the setting up of the long ranger speaker. Must ensure there is a full charge or set up an extension cord to operate the unit. This person is responsible for a post when necessary. Member required to put the devices away and plug in for charging after rehearsal.
Space Police:
1 person responsible for setting the proper spacing and facing of all members, ensuring that the ensemble is straight. In rehearsal: member checks for straight lines and proper spacing throughout the ensemble (when possible). On field: member is responsible to step out and check spacing and facing of all ensemble members and their set ups. This member can be called upon to work with the space police of the drum line as a second pair of eyes.
Time Checker:
1 person watches the clock to get members moving at the start of rehearsal and after breaks. Must give 2 min warnings and will be held accountable for tardiness. Time checker will commit to schedule even (and especially) when staff is distracting the group on breaks. Time checker will be responsible for recording absences and tardiness.
Equipment Manager:
1 person responsible for tools and extra parts to be readily available at rehearsals, competitions, games, and camps. Member is responsible for the checking for and reporting any necessary repairs that are needed to staff and following up with them to ensure repairs are completed. All members are to report equipment issues to this person.
Sub-Section Leaders:
These 4 members are to ensure individual members are keeping up with their musical responsibilities, keep them motivated, and to report to the section leader.
Section Leader:
Front Ensemble section leader is responsible for keeping musical time, tapping off, relaying staff messages, acting as a liaison between members staff and directors. Section leader is charged with the task of keeping all the percussion jobs running smoothly and will be held accountable for any short comings of the section. The section leader is the single physical representative of the Front Ensemble when the group receives awards, praise, and/or discipline.
